Located in a suggestive position, between the sloping hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the majestic scenery of the Apuan Alps, Barga is a characteristic medieval village protected by a wall and accessible by three doors: Porta Reale, Porta Macchiaia and Porta di Borgo .
Walking through the alleys you can discover Piazza Ser Barghesano and the Cathedral of San Cristoforo. Also noteworthy is the Conservatory of Santa Elisabetta, originally an ancient monastery of the Poor Clares, transformed in 1788 by Pietro Leopoldo Grand Duke of Tuscany into a conservatory for female education.
